89 Nissan patrol- problems

  • any mechanics out there who maybe able to give me some insite to what my problem could be. Yes I have had it to mechanics again and again spent $1300 still got problem. When driving along it will sometimes miss and/or  backfire, it's not all the time. I've had all the leads replaced, plugs replaced, rotor button and distributor cap replaced, new starter motor, all hoses done, radiator flushed (we did have a heating problem) full complete service. It's duel fuel so the gas has had a full service also, it does it on both fuels.  I'm at my wits end and fed up with spending money and no answers.
Any suggestions would be very helpful.
    Cheers janelle

      • you dont happen to have a discount petrol station that you buy your fuel from do you?

Besides a mechanical problem ( leave that one to the experts ) it could be bad fuel - near where I live there is one garage that has a reputation for dirty fuel and I went there once because I had to have fuel...yeah about 10 mins later the car starts to splutter and cough and it wasn't until I topped up the fuel again from a better place that it cleared up. Not saying that's the cause but it could be worth considering

maybe the tanks need a clean out  - I just read that it happens with the gas too....good luck, they are a pain!

        cheers

      • Could be an air/vacuum leak

      • hi,not sure about your model but ,possibly coil ,hall sensor, crank angle sensor ,valves ,timing ,faulty new lead or plug which would be more noticeable on gas , cheers

      • Hi mate
Mine used to do the exact same thing and spent heaps trying to get it rectified
Is yours Fuel Injected and if so get your Air flow sensor meter checked as this was the cause for my issues

        Good luck
        Brad
