Mate I know I'm a little late but what you did was fine, I must say though you need to check that your not losing any coolant because the expansion tank should hardly ever lose any coolant. Also it wouldn't hurt to service your cooling system by changing the coolant, keeping in mind you should never just put water in the system. If you do it will just corrode, hence you replace it with new Oz approved coolant. If your unsure how to remove the old stuff just refer to forums and they are pretty disciptive....cheers Marty

Thanks for your reply, better late than never :)
I managed to find the drain hole for the reservoir & emptied it, then flushed it through with the hosepipe to get rid of all the detergent.
I don't usually lose water since having my cylinder head fixed last year, this was just a top up needed.
I put coolant in there too now. The mechanic said water was fine while it was leaking but now it's fixed coolant is better.
